"The head of Russian state… expressed confidence in further development of constructive cooperation in different spheres for benefit of Russian and UK nations, on behalf of strengthening international security and stability," the statement said.
According to the statement, Putin mentioned a rich history of relations between the two countries.
The relations between the two nations have deteriorated in 2014 amid the crisis in Ukraine. The European Union, the United States and their allies have introduced several rounds of anti-Russia sanctions since Crimea seceded from Ukraine and reunified with Russia in 2014 and Moscow was accused of meddling in the Ukrainian conflict. Russia has repeatedly refuted the allegations.
