Russia delivered 16 tons of humanitarian aid to the eastern town of Deir al-Fardis in Syria, the Russian Defense Ministry said Tuesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The deliveries mainly included flour, food products and sweets for children, according to the bulletin.

“Camp for internally displaced persons located in Deir al-Fardis … has received 16 tons of humanitarian aid," the ministry said in a daily bulletin posted on its website.

One more ton of humanitarian aid has been delivered to the Malikyah region, Aleppo province, the bulletin added.

Syria has been mired in civil war since 2011, with government forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar Assad fighting numerous opposition factions and extremist groups. A US-Russia-brokered ceasefire, which excludes terrorist groups, came into force across Syria on February 27.

Russia has been bringing food, medicines and construction materials to besieged and hard-to-reach areas in Syria since the beginning of 2016.
