Brazil, Germany Join for First Time 25 Nations in RIMPAC Maritime Exercise

Military forces of Brazil, Denmark, Germany, and Italy will join 24 other nations during the world’s largest maritime Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise scheduled for June 30 - August 4, the US Navy said in a press release on Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The exercise will take on the islands of Hawaii and southern California, bringing together 45 ships, five submarines and more than 200 aircraft, according to the press release.

"This is the first time that Brazil, Denmark, Germany and Italy are participating in RIMPAC," the Navy stated.

The US Navy said participating nations, including Australia, India, China and the Philippines, will join in amphibious and mine clearance operations, as well as anti-submarine and air defense exercises, among other drills.

Commander of the US 3rd Fleet Vice Adm. Nora Tyson will lead RIMPAC 2016, according to the press release.
