Russia's Sherpa and Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that during India’s BRICS presidency, the organization’s member states would work on countering terrorism, as well as finding solutions to the Middle East crises.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A meeting between BRICS sherpas and sous-sherpas, which closed on Saturday in the Indian city of Jaipur, revealed that the organization was vital and had great potential, Russia's Sherpa and Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said Saturday.

"Everyone and, of course, the Indian presidency — noted: in today's challenging times, when some critics and enemies of BRICS, especially in Western countries, are engaged in seeking out weaknesses of the association… the meeting of sherpas and sous-sherpas reiterated the consolidated position in favor of it not being only viable, but also having great prospects," Ryabkov said asked to comment on the summit’s results.

He added that during India’s BRICS presidency, the organization’s member states would work on countering terrorism, as well as finding solutions to the Middle East crises.

BRICS is an association of five major emerging economies — Russia, India, Brazil, China and South Africa — which comprises over one third of the world’s population. The five nations have a combined nominal GDP equivalent to approximately 20 percent of gross world product.
