GENEVA (Sputnik) – The United States and Russia are pursuing common goals in Syria, in particular stopping carnage and finding a peaceful solution to the conflict, despite a number of differences, a US State Department spokesman told Sputnik Thursday.
"After all, the United States and Russia want the same – to stop the bloodshed in Syria, return to peace and a better future for Syrians — all the Syrian people, the representatives of all its religions and ethnicities. Of course, there are differences in opinions between Moscow and Washington, but we must remember that we want the same, we have one goal — a sustainable future for Syrians," Jared. S. Caplan stated.
Both Washington and Moscow stay in constant contact for intra-Syrian talks to succeed, he noted.
A fresh round of proximity talks between the Syrian government and opposition on how to end violent conflict in the country began on Wednesday in the Swiss city of Geneva.
