EC to Demand Anti-Terrorist Financing Efforts Become G20 Priority

The European Commission will insist on prioritizing efforts to cut off terrorism financing in a final communique of the Group of 20 (G20) meeting of finance ministers and central bank heads, EU Finance Commissioner Pierre Moscovici said Friday.

SHANGHAI (Sputnik) – Speaking to reporters ahead of the G20 session in Shanghai, Moscovici said his team would step up the fight against terrorist financing as one of the key methods to combat terrorism.

Two other priority areas for the Commission include strict compliance with commitments to maintain world economic growth and fight tax fraud, he added.

On February 2, the European Commission adopted an action plan to bolster the fight against terrorism financing, identifying three priority areas of tracking financial operations linked to funding terrorism, disrupting sources of terrorism revenue and encouraging international cooperation on the issue.
