China’s deployment of missile system in the South China Sea will not affect US planning of future military operations in the region, according to US Department of Defense spokesperson Peter Cook.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Beijing’s latest deployment of air defense missile system on islands in the Paracel chain in the South China Sea will not affect US planning of future military operations in the region, US Department of Defense spokesperson Peter Cook said during a press briefing on Friday.

"We will continue to fly, sail and operate wherever international law allows; that includes in the South China Sea and that part of the world," Cook stated. "It [China’s deployment of missile system] does not alter our own operations and it will not."
