    Bangkok Hosts Russian-Thai Working Group Security Meeting

    A meeting of the Russian-Thai working group on security issues was held on Wednesday in Bangkok, Russia’s Security Council announced.

    BANGKOK (Sputnik) The event was attended by Russian Deputy Security Council Secretary Evgeny Lukyanov and head of the Thai National Security Council Thavip Netniyom.

    "A wide spectrum of Russian-Thai relations was discussed. In particular, they focused on expanding the legal relations, the military and technical cooperation, joint counteraction to terrorism, religious extremism, transnational crime and threats to information security," Russia’s Security Council said in a statement.

    Earlier in the day, Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev discussed with his Thai counterpart the issues of ensuring regional and international security, the statement added.

    Both countries’ bodies cooperate since 2005 in compliance with the Memorandum of Understanding between the Russian Security Council and the Thai National Security Council.
