“In general, our regard to this launch was stated in the Foreign Ministry’s statement, where full unity was unambiguously demonstrated in the Security Council, which convened, and [expressed] its full unity in the unacceptability of this launch and in violation of the according norms of international law during the meeting of the Security Council that met on Sunday in New York,” Peskov told journalists.
On Sunday, North Korea fired a long-range rocket, defying a UN Security Council resolution which bans Pyongyang from launching rockets that may be used as ballistic missiles carrying nuclear warheads.
Following the launch, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated Pyongyang ignored calls of the international community, showing a defiant disregard for international law by firing a long-range rocket missile.
Tensions over North Korea's nuclear and ballistic missile programs escalated after Pyongyang said on January 6 that it had successfully carried out a hydrogen bomb test, triggering condemnation from the international community.
