MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Thursday, a federal watchdog said that Canada's eavesdropping agency, the Communications Security Establishment (CSE), did not protected citizens' data in a proper way before sharing it with its foreign partners within the framework of the so-called Five Eyes intelligence alliance.
"I am reassured that <…> the metadata errors that CSE identified were unintentional, and am satisfied with CSE’s proactive measures, including suspending the sharing of this information with its partners <…> CSE will not resume sharing this information with our partners until I am fully satisfied the effective systems and measures are in place," Sajjan said on Thursday.
He added that the information about identification, management and routing of communications over the networks could be protected inappropriately, however the emails, phone calls or text messages were protected to the full extent.
The Five Eyes alliance is a network of US, UK, Canadian, Australian and New Zealand intelligence agencies that share their monitoring activities over individual, business and government organizations.
