EU Has Little Option But to Follow US Sanctions Against Iran

Following Washington's imposition of more sanctions against Iran, the EU has little choice but to follow suit, German Economic News (DWN) reported on Monday.

The US lifted sanctions against Iran on Saturday and imposed more the next day; the EU is considering following suit, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said on Monday.

France's Foreign Minister said on Monday in Abu Dhabi that the EU "is going to compare the systems (of sanctions in place) in the EU and US, and then decide if new measures are necessary."

"It did not last very long before the EU followed the US, at least conceptually – and reviewed new sanctions against Iran," German Economic News (DWN) reported.

On Sunday the US Treasury imposed sanctions against 11 entities and individuals it deems to have helped Tehran procure goods for its ballistic missile program. The sanctions order US banks to freeze any assets the firms or individuals hold inside the US financial system, and prohibit US or foreign nationals from conducting business with them.

Iran has condemned the new sanctions as a US "propaganda stunt" to pacify domestic critics of the nuclear agreement and the recent prisoner swap deal, which concluded with the release of four US citizens and seven Iranians on Saturday.

DWN characterized the new sanctions against Iran as the latest example of the US misusing its hegemony over the world financial system.

"Almost all international payments paths lead to the USA, because the dollar is the world currency. At the moment, the Americans have the opportunity to penalize every company with sanctions."

"In the case of European banks, the US administration has already earned over one billion in extra income this way," DWN reported.

The US government condemned Iran after it carried out a test of its Emad medium-range guided ballistic missile in October, claiming that the missile is capable of carrying a nuclear warhead.

Iran says its missiles are not designed to carry nuclear warheads and serve only defensive and deterrent purposes.

On Monday, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Hossein Jaber Ansari said the US sanctions against the ballistic missile program "have no legal or moral legitimacy" and that Tehran will continue to test its missiles.

"We will respond to such propaganda stunts and disruptive measures by more robustly pursuing our lawful missile program and promoting our defense capabilities and national security."

He highlighted the hypocrisy of the new sanctions against Iran, which are being implemented because its ballistic missile program, according to the US Treasury, "poses a significant threat to regional and global security."

"America sells tens of billions of dollars of weaponry each year to countries in the region," Ansari pointed out.

"These weapons are used in war crimes against Palestinian, Lebanese and most recently Yemeni citizens."

The US has RICO statutes. I don't agree with them as law, but it shows the inconsistency in western law. US law says anyone in the chain is as guilty as the one actually doing it. That's why I refer to the West as a terrorist entity because it nourishes terrorists and fights against anyone who resists.

What is the EU following the US around for all of the time. The US call for sanctions...the EU follow. They lift sanctions, the EU follow.
The EU should be disbanded for countries to take back their sovereignty, and respectability.

Love to see that how strong, powerful and absolutely independent EU fills the ranks and obediently as cross of pig and poodle follows USA on their crusade against the freedom and independence around the world.

Now I would like to see how Iran will react, as they have also option to deny any contract and cooperation to EU. Now there are Asian countries very eager to do the business with Iran with full respect of Iran's sovereignty. I believe that if Russia and China invite Iran to join BRICS and NDB as well as IAIB they will be able to purchase everything they will ever need from BRICS countries and wider with total exclusion of USA and EU.

I would like to see long faces in EU if that would happen in short order, as they would realise that thanks to their ultimate friendship with USA they lost at least couple of hundreds of billions EUR. However I do not know if that would go that way as EU will try to put the responsibility on USA and beg for more time to sort out with sanctions.

EU are complete idiots, unbelievable. Common Russia, use this opportunity and do the business with Iran as much as you can. Steal the jobs to USA and EU and make them pay for illegal sanctions against you and Iran.

How much does the population of the E.U. despise and hate there governments for being subservient to the septic (US) CAURSE!!! Merkel has been a FINE representative for there cause!!! The E.U. will never be what it used to be because there governments, followed without fault, to marching band orders of N.A.T.O. The influx of so called war refugees WILL BE the demise of Europe. It will forever change Europe to what it used to be. Where did this all start from, NOT RUSSIA,NOT THE EU, BUT THE FILTHY SEPTIC (US) ROTHSCHILD N.W.O. The headline text is totally misconstrued, it should read, E.U. MUST FOLLOW US ORDERS REGARDING WITHDRAWAL OF SANCTIONS ON IRAN!!!

Iran might have to follow through the purchase of Airbuses though at least the long range ones and buy Embraer and Suchoi Super jet´s for the other segments, but im sure the EUrofags will continue to enjoy their spineless journey, jumping around on one foot while shooting themselves in the other...

I think Iran should JUMP the band wagon. Go with Russia. Russia build jets as good as Airbus if not better. they make a lot of propaganda, at west. But the fly by wire they prop up so much, was first pioneered by Russia. The plane was a BIG ..BIG Soviet propaganda plane. It had the tech first. It had big speakers for propaganda.
Refuse ANY investment from sanctioning countries including oil or gas development. Keep them off.
Russia can do it. Russia can invest and be like old days for Iran. Join SCO, MAYBE review EEU. Turkey wants in E.U. Why not Iran in EEU?
Definitely join CSTO. Let CSTO help with defense. And maybe allow a Russian base? IF Russia decide to allow it.. Another issue. Just keep U.S , E.U and friends OUT..
And prepare for regime change that will come from west to place puppets like in Ukraine.

This will be remembered as the weekend where the US warmongers obliterated one of the last remaining diplomatic successes of the Obama presidency.

To quote an old saying from my continent, from the Swahilis actually: When two elephants fight, it is the grass that gets trampled.
