Prokopios Pavlopoulos accused Turkey of facilitating the smuggling of migrants from its territory to Europe.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) Greek President Prokopios Pavlopoulos accused Turkey on Monday of facilitating the smuggling of migrants from its territory to Europe, in an interview with a German newspaper.

"I have serious concerns that Turkish human traffickers get support from authorities," Pavlopoulos told Sueddeutsche Zeitung.

The Greek leader said that port authorities in Turkey did not do enough to prevent migrants from boarding smuggler boats bound for Europe. "In particular, port authorities are pretending to be unaware of this," he claimed.

The European Union agreed in November to give Turkey 3 billion euros (almost $3.8 billion) in funds to help it bolster border security and accommodate some 2.2 million Syrian refugees. The European Commission has already transferred some 500 million euros, with the rest to be contributed by EU member states.

President Pavlopoulos confirmed that Greece would uphold its part of the deal to provide Turkey with funds – but only after Ankara delivers on its pledge to prevent migrants from crossing into Europe. "Turkey has so far not delivered," he said.

The Greek president is in Berlin for three-way talks with his German counterpart Joachim Gauck and Chancellor Angela Merkel, whose open-door refugee policy he described as "daring."

What else is new; the refugees have always been Turkey's policy instrument in dealing with Europe.

He has concerns? They smuggle anything by land and sea drugs people guns. Just go and ask the soldiers at Evros. Albanians and Turks they do what they like in the borders and respsect no one. Might as well add the Bulgarians too but not that much as the other two. Greece needs an extra harsh politics on its borders and must understand that has no friendly neighbours . Italy included but more like a indifferent neighbour cause they actually have never aided the Greeks.

Greece should "help" these refugees make it to the UK, after all was it not the UK that was in the forefront of the destruction of Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya.....Syria (Cameron: Assad must GO!). Is it not the UK which is the most desired destination of refugees (Calais)? Maybe if the UK will send a few billion Euro to Greece.... Then the next destination can be France, but for a few billion Euro....... It is a bad Idea to payoff Turkey. It would be better for the EU to threaten to cancel in mass all Turkish work permits and send these people back to Turkey as the EU now has plenty of other economic refugees to fill those jobs.....

He's only parroting what Kasidiaris has been saying all along, but the liberal media blacks out Golden Dawn representatives unless its to smear them. What Erdogan is doing is equivalent to bribery and robbery....
