MOSCOW (Sputnik) Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades is scheduled to attend the World Economic Forum in Davos later this month, his press office confirmed to Sputnik Tuesday.

“The President will go to Davos, as far as his meetings there – they are not fixed yet,” the press officer said, adding that the list of meetings is due to be announced on January 19, a day before the World Economic Forum starts.

While in Davos, Anastasiades is expected to meet with Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) leader Mustafa Akinci for peace negotiations, according to media reports.

The Eastern Mediterranean island has been partitioned since 1974, when Turkish troops occupied its northern part and proclaimed the TRNC nearly a decade later. Only Turkey recognizes the TRNC, also known as Northern Cyprus.

The Geneva-based World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting is traditionally held between late January and early February in Davos. The Swiss town is the venue for discussion of the most acute political and economic issues by representatives of dozens of countries.
