'Turkey’s Expansionistic Interests Coincide With Those of US, EU'

Turkey’s policy against Russia is very risky and could lead to three territorial disputes between the two; however Ankara’s expansionistic interests echo those of the West, according to Manuel Ochsenreiter, editor-in-chief of the German news magazine Zuerst!

Turkey’s aggressive policy against Russia might result in three territorial disputes between the two, Ochsenreiter said in an interview with the Iranian news channel PressTV.

The first conflict centers around Crimea, he explained, as Ankara officially supports Ukraine’s stance on the peninsula’s reunification with Russia.

The second one is the most current and pressing: the dispute in northern Syria.

The the third, and the most far away, is the conflict in the Southern Caucasus.

However, the journalist explained, “the interests of the West generally coincide with the expansionistic interests of Turkey.”

Therefore, Brussels, Berlin and Washington might cushion the impact of Russia’s sanctions.
