NAIROBI (Sputnik) – Earlier in the day, Afghanistan became the 164th member of the WTO, with the formal accession ceremony held during the trade body's 10th ministerial conference (MC10).
"This is indeed a historical day for Afghanistan," Rahmani said.
He added that Afghanistan's membership of the WTO would cement the country's long-standing commitment to an open economy, transparency, the rule of law, good governance, non-discrimination and market instruments for economic development and to alleviate poverty in Afghanistan.
Economy ministers from over 160 states are currently gathered in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi for the four-day MC10 aimed at defining the course of multilateral trade relations for the coming years.
