BELGRADE (Sputnik) — Turkey's downing of a Russian Su-24 aircraft should not be confused with its actions against the Islamic State group (also known by its Arab acronym Daesh), Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Thursday.
"In Syria, five years of the conflict have generated problems for the entire region. The terrorist threat has increased with new proportions. Bombing in Ankara, multiple terrorist attacks in Paris and the downing of the Russian plane in Egypt. These attacks have also changed our perception of security in a fundamental way," Cavusoglu said at an OSCE ministerial meeting.
"I should also mention that the incident on November 24 was the result of a violation of the Turkish airspace and shouldn't be confused with our combat against our common enemy of Daesh," the minister underscored.
The Islamic State is designated a terrorist organization by numerous countries, including Turkey and Russia.
