CAIRO (Sputnik) — Cairo could increase the supply of its products to the Russian market in light of the economic restrictions imposed on Turkey by Russia, the spokesman for the Egyptian General Organization for Export and Import Control told Sputnik on Wednesday.
On Saturday, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree to increase national security and introduce economic measures against Ankara, including a ban on the import of certain Turkish foodstuffs, effective January 2016. The measures come in response to Turkey's downing of a Russian Su-24 bomber over Syria on November 24.
Jaber added that the Egyptian side was analyzing Russian import requirements and the potential demand for Egyptian goods to ensure they can satisfy any gaps in the Russian market.
The downing of the Su-24 resulted in the deterioration of relations between Russia and Turkey. Putin called the incident "a stab in the back."
