Turkey's Downing of Russian Su-24 Intensifies Syria Situation – Merkel
MOSCOW, November 25 (Sputnik) Moscow is currently doubting Turkey’s intentions to work together in the fight against terrorism, but this position is not held in regard to the members of the US-led coalition, regardless of the downing of Russia’s Su-24 Fencer bomber downed over Syria, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Wednesday.

"In regard to Turkey, then here we can express doubt in joint action, at least at this stage. But this obviously doesn’t apply to the other members of the [US-led] coalition," Peskov told journalists.

Terrorists operate right next to Syria's border with Turkey, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Wednesday, responding to a question on whether Russia would carry out flights further away from the Turkish border after Tuesday's downing of its Su-24 military jet.

"There is no such thing as 'further away from the Turkish border.' There is such a thing as Syrian airspace. I would very much like for terrorists and militants to operate further away from the Turkish border, but, unfortunately, they have a tendency to operate on Syrian ground right next to the border with Turkey," Peskov told reporters.

There have been no high-level contacts between Moscow and Ankara since the Russian Su-24 Fencer bomber was downed by Turkey over Syria, Dmitry Peskov said.

"So far there have been no high-level contacts," Peskov told journalists.

Russia is deploying S-400 missile defense systems to the airbase in Syria because a Russian Su-24 Fencer bomber was shot out of the Syrian skies, which is a violation of international law and an unfriendly act, Kremlin spokesman said.

"The plane was brought down in Syrian skies, which is a violation of international law and an extremely unfriendly act in regard to a Russian military aircraft," Peskov told journalists.
