Russian President Vladimir Putin warned the tragedy with Russian Su-24 military aircraft downed in Syria will have serious consequences for Moscow-Ankara relations.
Both pilots were able to catapult, according to Russia's Defense Ministry. Turkey claimed violation of its airspace by the Russian aircraft, with the Russian Defense Ministry rejecting such claims on the grounds of objective monitoring data. Russia's President Putin called the incident a "stab in the back," carried out by "accomplices of terrorists."
Earlier Turkey has summoned the Russian Minister Counsellor over the downed Su-24, according to the embassy press representative Igor Mityakov.
Tuesday, a Russian Sukhoi Su-24 was downed by an air-to-air missile in Syria near the Turkish border by the Turkish Air Force while carrying out precision strikes against terrorists in northern Syria.
