MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Secretaries of Security Councils of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) held talks in Moscow Wednesday on national security issues, as well as efforts to defeat the Islamic State jihadist group, according to the Security Council of the Russian Federation’s press release.
"We discussed joint efforts to counter the expansion of the Islamic State terrorist group, including tackling the recruitment of CIS citizens into the IS ranks," the press release read.
On October 16, CIS countries signed several documents aimed at ensuring safety and security, as well as issuing a joint statement on the fight against international terrorism, according to Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev.
