MOSCOW (Sputnik) – A total of 161 parliamentarians supported the amendment, with 59 against and 13 abstaining.

The Iranian Parliament on Tuesday approved the P5+1 agreement on the country’s nuclear program, national IRNA news agency reported.

"The Islamic Revolution Leader's fatwa decides no government in Iran has the right to produce and use nuclear weapons, and the state is obliged to actively pursue the policy of global nuclear disarmament and to utilize in all international, legal and diplomatic efforts to save humanity from the threat of nuclear weapons and their proliferation, including through the establishment of zones free of weapons of mass destruction, especially the nuclear weapons-free Middle East to create regional integration, especially in Israel's nuclear disarmament participation," the news agency quotes the amendment to the country’s law to read.

The P5+1 group of international mediators, comprising Russia, the United States, China, the United Kingdom, France and Germany, signed a deal with Iran aimed at keeping Tehran’s nuclear program peaceful in exchange for sanctions relief on July 14.

It was necessary for the Iranian parliament to approve the deal before any further steps on its implementation could be taken.

The final "adoption day" for the nuclear agreement between the negotiators and Iran is set for mid-October. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is expected to provide a final assessment of Tehran’s compliance with the agreement by December 15.
