US Aviation Company Boeing have highlighted a maintenance issue for Boeing-777 aircraft following an accident when a landing gear panel fell from a passenger jet on Monday.

Boeing expressed their concern over the incident which took place when the Air France flight 111 lost a piece of 60-kilograms metal just after the plane took off from the Shanghai airport, although there were no injuries and the plane landed safely in Paris.

The panel is one of the parts that open and close when the landing gear is deployed and not a part of the landing gear itself, the company’s spokesman Chris Villiers told AFP, noting the incident with the Boeing 777 was treated "with utmost concern and urgency."

"It does not affect the structural integrity of the landing gear nor the safety of the flight", stressed Villiers.

All measures to resolve the problem have been already taken and a service bulletin to the fleet with instructions was issued right after the incident, he claimed.
The problem was discovered to be caused by the fasteners holding the panel in place.

The spokesman added: "We have implemented the change for airplanes produced in our factories."

Boeing recently celebrated its 99-year anniversary having more than 10,000 airplanes in service around the world.
