MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Tony Blair's call comes as the United Kingdom marks the tenth anniversary of the 2005 bombings in London. On July 7, 2005, London was hit by suicide bomb attacks on its transport system, carried out by four men. The incident claimed the lives of 52 people, while more than 700 were injured.

"I think in the end the world will wake up to the scale of this threat and the need to deal with it," Blair, the UK leader at the time of the attacks, told ITV News.

According to Blair, the threat from radical groups, such as the Islamic State, is global, and it will take a long time to overcome it.

On July 7, 2005, four bomb explosions went off in London, three in the city's Underground and one on a double-decker bus in Tavistock Square.

Two weeks later, on July 21, three people were arrested on suspicion of attempting to set off four bombs in the London transport system. Another man was detained later on charges of providing assistance to the attackers. The bombs failed to explode after being detonated.
