Canada Convicts Couple for Plotting 2013 Domestic Terror Attack

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A Canadian couple was found guilty of plotting a 2013 Canada Day terror attack in the province of British Columbia, CBC News reported.

The jury found John Nuttall and his wife Amanda Korody guilty Tuesday of conspiring to commit murder and possessing explosives for the benefit or on behalf of a terrorist organization.

Meanwhile, the defense said it would try to appeal the court decision, as the police allegedly entrapped the couple into the plot during a sting operation, according to the newspaper.

The guilty verdicts can be stayed if the judge finds any abuses of process. The final arguments will be heard by the judge in July.

On July 1 2013, on the national day of Canada, the police reported they prevented a bombing outside British Columbia's provincial legislature. Later on that day, Nuttall and Korody, both Canadian nationals, were arrested and charged with plotting to detonate pressure-cooker explosives on the front lawn of the building.

According to the trial, the couple was keen on extremism, as their laptops contained recordings of the Quran, along with extremist literature and the instructions on setting off explosives.
