Varvara Karaulova, the second-year student of the Faculty of Philosophy of the Lomonosov Moscow State University, has been put on the international wanted list after she went missing five days ago, Russian media reported.

"Interpol has put Varvara on its international wanted persons list, with relevant notifications sent to representatives of police in five countries, including Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States," the Karaulov family's lawyer Alexander Karabanov said.

He added said that the girl disappeared on May 27, when she failed to appear as expected at University.

Right now, Varvara is thought to be in Turkey, Karabanov said, adding that "there is reliable proof that she has been recruited by radical Islamists from the Islamic State group."

He added that a pre-investigation check is now under way and  all operational measures are being taken in order to track down Varvara.

"We are now trying to monitor the use of her passports, credit cards and investigating everyone who could be involved in what we see as a possible abduction through psychological manipulation," Karabanov said.

He referred to witnesses who claimed that when leaving home she often wore a hijab, or a headscarf.

Her father, Pavel Karaulov, said in turn that shortly before she escaped, she had stopped wearing baptismal Orthodox cross, but that he did not attach any importance to this fact.

He said that he wrote on Facebook about the disappearance of his daughter on May 28. According to him, Varvara could have been kidnapped so that she could be sent to Syria or Libya through Istanbul. He added that she has perfect command of English, Arabic, German, French and Latin languages.

Karabanov, for his part, expressed hope that the June 3 press conference in Turkey will shed more light on the case and help Varvara to finally contact her family.
