MOSCOW (Sputnik) – It was reported earlier that Kerry was flown to a hospital in Geneva after suffering a broken leg early Sunday near the town of Scionzier, staying overnight for further monitoring.
Dr. Dennis Burke of Massachusetts General Hospital, who performed surgery on Kerry in 2010, will accompany the secretary back to the United States where he will continue treatment, according to CNN.
An unnamed US State Department official told the broadcast network Kerry's broken right femur would most likely require surgery.
Kerry was scheduled to travel to Madrid and Paris late Sunday and Tuesday, but was forced to cancel the visits. He is expected to take part, via Internet, in a ministerial meeting on the progress of an anti-Islamic jihadist group campaign from Boston, Massachusetts.
