According to a statement published on Al Jazeera website, the agency's investigative unit, in collaboration with The Guardian, will reveal secret documents by South Africa's State Security Agency (SSA) and the country's secret correspondence with the US CIA, Britain's MI6, Russia's FSB, Israel's Mossad and dozens of other secret services worldwide.
"They [the documents to be revealed] include the Israeli Mossad's true assessment of Iran's nuclear program, an assassination plot targeting an African Union leader and an MI6 operation to recruit a North Korean spy," Al Jazeera said in a promo video posted on its website.
According to Al Jazeera, the documents to be revealed date from 2006 to December, 2014. Some of them will be edited to protect the identities of undercover agents.
Al Jazeera stressed that unlike the data on electronic intelligence, obtained by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden, The Spy Cables focuses on human intelligence and will provide "an unprecedented insight" into the daily working lives of secret services.
