Chinese authorities is going to select the ten best doctors among medical workers sent to West Africa to fight Ebola.

MOSCOW, January 6 (Sputnik) — China has begun Tuesday the selection of the ten best doctors from those dispatched to Ebola-affected West African countries and will award them 50,000 yuan ($8,000) each, Xinhua news agency reported.

The ten doctors will be chosen based on their achievements, professional ethics and team spirit in combating the Ebola virus disease in West Africa, the news agency reported.

The doctors will be announced in mid-February by the two bodies responsible for dispatching the Chinese medical aim teams – the National Health and Family Planning Commission and the People's Liberation Army's general logistics department, according to Xinhua.

Since the outbreak in West Africa began in December 2013, China has sent hundreds of medical workers to Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia, the three most-affected countries.

According to the latest World Health Organization data, the virus has killed about 8,000 people in the three countries, out of the almost 21,000 probable, suspected and confirmed cases reported.
