Far-right parties are unlikely to win the majority of votes in the early parliamentary elections in Ukraine, but they should not be underestimated, former Ambassador of Serbia to Ukraine Dusan Lazic told RIA Novosti on Saturday.

MOSCOW, October 25 (RIA Novosti) - Far-right parties are unlikely to win the majority of votes in the early parliamentary elections in Ukraine, but they should not be underestimated, former Ambassador of Serbia to Ukraine Dusan Lazic told RIA Novosti on Saturday.

"Nationalism wins when there is no alternative. Ukraine has reached the stage where things are going in the direction of resolution of the whole situation, so I believe that the voices of extremist forces will not prevail at these elections," Lazic said.

In general, the elections in Ukraine, in his estimation, are a positive fact because they are "the only way to find a solution that will be fair for all."

However, the lack of opportunity to vote in a number of eastern regions of Ukraine is, in Lazic's words, a big disadvantage of the electoral process.

"Elections are the starting point for the development of the situation in Ukraine, but the elections that do not involve the whole nation cannot fully contribute to stability," the former ambassador noted.

He added that after the elections the Ukrainian government must make sure that all voices in the country are heard.

"It is clear that Ukraine will move in the direction of compromise and the change of the political system, in which the eastern regions of the country will be given more autonomy in the legal sense and in solving existing problems," Lazic concluded.

Ukrainians will vote in early parliamentary elections on Sunday, October 26. A total of 29 political parties are expected to take part in the Verkhovna Rada election. Petro Poroshenko Bloc, backed by the incumbent president, is considered to be the undisputed leader, with an approval rating of about 25 percent.

At the same time, the leaders of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk republics (DPR and LPR) have set their own elections of regional leaders and legislative bodies for November 2.
