MOSCOW, Ocotber 23 (RIA Novosti) - A 35-year-old Egyptian woman was arrested for being the administrator of a Facebook page called "The Revolutionary Alliance," which apparently posted material to incite people to "disturb national security" and attack governmental installations, banks, police vehicles and other public property posts, state news agency MENA reported.
During her arrest police confiscated a laptop, MENA reported, adding that the woman confessed to being "a member of the Muslim Brotherhood" and to participating in acts of disrupting the government’s rule.
The suspect evidently admitted to communicating with a Brotherhood member who was assigning her orders for attacks from Turkey, as cited by MENA.
The Muslim Brotherhood movement is the country's oldest and largest Islamist organization. It was founded by Hassan al-Banna, and the organization has influenced Islamist movements around the world with its model of political activism combined with Islamic charity work, as stated by BBC.
According to the BBC, the movement initially started by spreading Islamic morals, but soon became involved in politics, particularly the fight to rid Egypt of British colonial control and cleanse it of all Western influence.
Since then the movement has actively participated in the politics of Egypt and has thousands of supporters there, states Al-Jazeera.
In recent months, Egyptian and International rights groups have expressed concern over the active hunt of Muslim Brotherhood members by the Egyptian authorities which started under the command of their then army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi; the activists and liberals who were involved in the Uprising of 2011 along with thousands of Brotherhood supporters are in jail and their numbers just keeps increasing, states Al-Haram.
