WASHIGNTON, October 22 (RIA Novosti) - The White House has offered assistance to Canadian officials in the wake of shooting in Ottawa, US President Barack Obama keeps in touch with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said Wednesday.

"Officials inside the US government have been in close touch with their Canadian counterparts today to offer assistance that includes officials here in the White House,” Earnest said.

“The President did connect with the Canadian prime-minister,” Earnest added.

Details of the conversation will be published later.

Earnest said that Canadian authorities are still investigating the shooting and declined to say whether US or Canadian officials believed the shooting could be a terrorist attack.
