MEXICO CITY, October 16 (RIA Novosti) - Student protests in Mexico ended with damage to the front of the Federal Prosecutor's Office building, El Mundo reported Thursday.
A group of young people, mostly masked, caused the damage to the government building in Mexico City Wednesday. The students were protesting against the disappearance of 43 students in the Mexican state of Guerrero suspected to be kidnapped and murdered by local police.
According to El Mundo, the university students, mainly from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), participated in the protest demanding authorities disclose the location of the missing students.
During the rally, the students carried posters with pictures of their 43 missing peers with slogans demanding their return.
The students, from the Ayotzinapa Teacher Training College, went missing on September 27, last seen being forced into police vans. This happened after police opened fire on the students, who were using hijacked buses, killing six.
So far, 22 police officers have been detained in relation to the incident, while Iguala's mayor and police chief, Jose Luis, wanted for questioning, appears to have gone into hiding, according to state prosecutors.
The Mexican government has offered a reward of $75,000 for any information leading to the students' whereabouts.
Anti-government rallies have been held in several Mexican cities since the students' disappearance.
