MOSCOW, October 13 (RIA Novosti) - The Islamic State (IS) has called on its followers to carry out spontaneous attacks against the citizens of countries, which are supporting the US-led anti-IS military campaign, an article published in the latest edition of the terrorist group's propaganda magazine Dabiq said.

"At this point of the crusade against the Islamic State, it is very important that attacks take place in every country that has entered into the alliance against the Islamic State, especially the US, UK, France, Australia and Germany," the article said, adding that "the citizens of crusader nations should be targeted wherever they can be found."

The IS, is a Sunni extremist group, also known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS) or the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), which has been fighting the Syrian government since 2012. In June 2014, the group expanded its attacks to northern and western Iraq and declared an Islamic caliphate on the territories that had fallen under its control. A US-led coalition is currently carrying out airstrikes against IS positions in Syria and Iraq.

The US State Department estimates that some 12,000 foreigners from more than 50 countries are fighting alongside IS militants in the Middle East, being drawn by effective propaganda, aimed at targeting young people. IS media activities include a TV channel, a magazine and a high profile presence on social networking sites.
