KIEV, October 9 (RIA Novosti) – Warsaw has sent humanitarian aid to Ukraine, Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council said in a statement Thursday.
"Ukraine also expects humanitarian aid from Warsaw. Polish volunteers and private companies have gathered personal hygiene products, household chemicals, and medical supplies for the Ukrainian military and internally displaced persons," the council's spokesman Andriy Lysenko said.
On Tuesday, Kiev said that a humanitarian convoy from Germany, which entered Ukraine from Poland on Tuesday, was expected to arrive in Kiev Tuesday night, and the aid would be distributed and sent to the Ukrainian regions by October 12.
The convoy is carrying some 740 tons of humanitarian aid, including construction materials, heaters, blankets and folding beds, according to the Spiegel magazine.
In April, Kiev forces started a military operation against independence supporters in eastern Ukraine, which according to UN figures claimed the lives of over 3,660 people and left over 8,700 injured.
Due to the conflict, Ukraine's southeastern regions have witnessed a severe humanitarian catastrophe, with many citizens strugling without clean water, electricity and other basic necessities.
