MOSCOW, October 6 (RIA Novosti) – A devastating typhoon has crippled central Japan, interrupting train traffic, suspending flights, causing power outages and claiming at least one life on Monday,  Kyodo News reports.

This season’s 18th typhoon, named Phanfone, struck the coast of Hamamatsu, a city in Honshu’s Shizuoka Prefecture in the morning. The typhoon brought heavy rain, delaying bullet train services between Tokyo and Osaka and cancelling roughly 600 flights from the capital’s Haneda Airport. The Air Force and the Japanese coast guard have reported three American servicemen have been swept away to sea in Okinawa, one of them has been found dead. The other two men are still missing, with the rolling seas complicating their search.

Then the typhoon ransacked the North and finally moved eastward into the Pacific, where it is expected to weaken.
