MOSCOW, October 6 (RIA Novosti) – Thomas Eric Duncan, the first Ebola patient in the Unites States, is fighting for his life at a Dallas hospital, a top U.S. health official told Reuters.
“The man in Dallas, who is fighting for his life, is the only patient to develop Ebola in the United States”, said Dr. Thomas Frieden, director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as quoted by CNN.
Duncan became ill after arriving in Texas from Liberia a couple of weeks ago. As many as 38 people are thought to have been in contact with Duncan when he developed symptoms of the disease, Canadian CBC reported.
It has not appeared that the patient received any of the Ebola experimental medicines, the Canadian source informed.
Ebola spreads through contact with bodily fluids, such as blood or saliva.
The worst Ebola epidemic is ravaging across West Africa and has already killed at least 3,400 people, according to Reuters.
