MOSCOW, September 24 (RIA Novosti) - Islamic cleric Abu Qatada has been cleared of terrorism charges and ordered release by the Jordanian court, the BBC reported Wednesday.

The State Security Court of Jordan acquitted Abu Qatada of the accusation of being involved in terrorist attacks against the tourists on Millennium eve and ordered to immediately release him, according to the BBC.

A radical Islamic preacher of Palestinian-Jordanian origins, Qatada was deported from the United Kingdom to Jordan in 2013 on terrorism charges following years of legal battle. In June, Jordanian court found him innocent of organizing another terrorist attack in 1998.

Qatada has been repeatedly accused of having links with al-Qaeda and is under a UN-imposed worldwide embargo.
