KIEV, September 7 (RIA Novosti) – A decision has been made at the Mariupol territorial defense headquarters to install a second defense ring around the southeastern Ukrainian city, the Mariupol City Council said Sunday.
“The spots where the second defense ring will be installed in order to protect the city on distant approaches have been determined. Industrial plants and other city services will be working on the implementation of the project. The time frame for the completion of the task, as well as those responsible for it, has been established,” a statement from the City Council said.
Ukraine’s Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said via Facebook that additional Ukrainian forces are gathering around Mariupol, which hosts the Kiev-appointed authorities of the Donetsk Region.
The Deputy Prime Minister of the self-proclaimed People's Republic of Donetsk (DPR), Andrei Purgin, told RIA Novosti that the Donetsk and Luhansk militia intend to adhere to the ceasefire despite provocations by Ukrainian law enforcers.
Earlier on Sunday, the self-proclaimed Donetsk (DPR) and Luhansk (LPR) People's Republics reportedly introduced a number of "urgent measures" to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) to aid in implementing the protocol agreed upon in Minsk on September 5 by the trilateral Contact Group. The republics hope for a speedy approval from the OSCE in addition to impartial monitoring of the ceasefire by the organization.
During the meeting concerning the situation in Ukraine in Minsk on Friday, the trilateral Contact Group agreed to a ceasefire that began at 15:00 GMT the same day.
