MOSCOW, August 14 (RIA Novosti) - Igor Kochergin, who has been prosecuted and fleeing from justice since 2007, was apprehended by Thai police following a request from the Russian department of Interpol and deported to Russia on Thursday, Vladimir Sosnov, head of the consular section at the Russian Embassy in Thailand, told RIA Novosti.
“Kochergin Igor Nikolayevich, born 1962, has been deported from Thailand following the request from the Russian Interpol and sent to Moscow on a scheduled flight Thursday morning, accompanied by several Russian police officers,” Sosnov said.
The Kochergin case is an example of successful cooperation between Russian law enforcement authorities and Thailand, the diplomat said.
Kochergin was taken into custody on August 4 in the city of Pattaya. He is charged with large-scale fraud and crime-related property deals.
