Malaysia is planning to station two police officers – one in Ukraine and one in the Netherlands – to continue the investigation into the recent Malaysia Airlines plane crash near Donetsk, Malaysian daily New Straits Times reported Tuesday, citing Malaysian Police Inspector-General Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.

MOSCOW, August 12 (RIA Novosti) – Malaysia is planning to station two police officers – one in Ukraine and one in the Netherlands – to continue the investigation into the recent Malaysia Airlines plane crash near Donetsk, Malaysian daily New Straits Times reported Tuesday, citing Malaysian Police Inspector-General Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.

One officer has already been sent to Kiev from London "to be on standby and to attend meetings," the newspaper said.

"The officer has been sent there and he will be attending meetings that will provide regular updates on the situation whilst we will be sending another officer to be placed in Eindhoven, [or] Amsterdam," the police chief said.

Abu Bakar spoke upon the return of his team Tuesday morning from Ukraine, where they investigated the MH17 crash site, which is likely to still hold the remains of some victims. They can only be recovered, he said, if a ceasefire is agreed between Ukrainian troops and independence supporters in the region.

The inspector-general said the team that returned to Malaysia was the last one, but they could be sent to Ukraine again if needed.

Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur crashed in eastern Ukraine on July 17. All 298 people on board, including 85 children, died in the crash.

According to Ukrainian authorities, the plane was shot down by independence supporters, while the latter deny the allegations, saying they do not have the means to hit a target flying so high.
