TOKYO, August 4 (RIA Novosti) – Super typhoon Halong will hit the southern coast of Japan on Wednesday, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) reported Monday.

The typhoon Halong, which received the 11th category in Japan, is currently heading towards the southern prefecture of Okinawa with central pressure at 930 millibars and the speed of 9.3 miles per hour (15 kilometers per hour).

Meteorologists are yet unable to say where the tropical storm will head in the second half of the week but warn that if the high pressure area in the Pacific Ocean eases, the typhoon may pass over the territory of Japan.

The residents of Japan’s southeastern Shikoku islands still suffer from the consequences of the recent tropical storm Nakri. During the past few days, the storm has brought here up to 40 inches (1000 millimeters) of rain, which exceeded the monthly rainfall for August by 2-3 times.

Last month, the southern and central regions of Japan were hit by typhoon Neoguri, which was declared the most powerful of all that passed over Japanese archipelago in July. Neoguri claimed lives of three people and left another 63 injured.
