ROSTOV-ON-DON, July 27 (RIA Novosti) – Clashes began around Ukraine’s Dolzhanskiy border crossing, the neighboring Novoshakhtinsk checkpoint was shut down, a representative of Russia's Federal Customs Service told RIA Novosti on Sunday.

“An armed clash broke out in the vicinity of Dolzhanskiy checkpoint at 11:20 a.m. local time (6:20 GMT). Novoshakhtinsk checkpoint is closed, the personnel has been evacuated,” Rayan Farukshin representing the Southern Customs Department reported.

Since the beginning of the special military operation launched by Kiev to suppress independence supporters in the east of Ukraine, the clashes in the Donetsk and Luhansk Regions neighboring Russian border have grown more frequent.

Earlier this month, Moscow invited OSCE observers to assess the situation on the Russian-Ukrainian border, which has been hit multiple times by the Ukrainian artillery and mortar fire.
