MOSCOW, July 21 (RIA Novosti) - Direct economic losses from Typhoon Rammasun, which hit southern China, amounted to 26.55 billion yuan ($4.32 billion), according to an official statement issued by Chinese authorities.

The strongest typhoon to hit China in 40 years has killed 18 people and injured more than 100, while the death toll in Philippines rose to 94, Xinhua news agency reported.

Wind speeds reached 216 kph (133 mph). Typhoon destroyed 37,000 homes in China's southern coastal Hainan Province, Guangdong Province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Xinhua quoted the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters as saying.

The latest statistics showed that more than 5.57 million people were affected by the super typhoon. More than 700,000 people have been evacuated.

Thousands of buses, trains and flights across the region were suspended.

The typhoon Rammasun 2014 affected China, Macau, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Philippines, Caroline Islands and Mariana Islands. It formed on July 10 and dissipated on July 20, seeing a total of 114 fatalities in its wake.
