BRUSSELS, June 27 (RIA Novosti), Mark Hirst – David Cameron became an embarrassment to the people of Britain when he failed to block "dangerous" integrationist Jean-Claude Juncker from becoming the next EU President, senior UKIP MEP has told RIA Novosti.
“I think it will be a disaster for Europe as a whole and in turn disastrous for the UK economy," said David Coburn commenting on Juncker's nomination. "Juncker is dangerous, he wants further European integration and he’s exactly what we don’t want."
"Cameron has embarrassed the British people and he has let down all those people in Britain who voted against ‘more Europe’,” Coburn added.
Cameron broke with EU convention by pushing for a vote on the nomination for President but in the end only managed to secure support from Hungary, with the other 26 European countries backing Juncker.
“This is Wimbledon week [a tennis tournament in London] and quite frankly it’s game, set and match to the European Union,” Coburn stated.
“Cameron said if Juncker got in that he would consider a referendum on Britain’s future membership of the EU. He should consider holding that referendum now,” UKIP MEP added.
Coburn also warned that Juncker’s nomination as President would have far reaching consequences for the EU and predicted it would lead to the collapse of the entire European project.
“In some ways he’s perfect for UKIP because he’ll bring the whole EU project crashing down. I think that will happen sooner rather than later,” Coburn said.
“He’s the worst of all possible candidates in a very poor field. He’s a donkey in a field of donkeys,” Coburn added.
