The possibility of Ukraine’s membership in NATO is currently not on the agenda, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said Tuesday.

ST. PETERSBURG, June 10 (RIA Novosti) — The possibility of Ukraine’s membership in NATO is currently not on the agenda, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said Tuesday.

“We see no threat for Russia in Ukraine’s association with the EU, and Ukraine’s membership in NATO is not on the agenda," he said after a meeting with his Russian and German counterparts in St. Petersburg.

The trilateral meeting saw a number of issues surrounding Ukraine’s crisis discussed by the Russian, German and Polish foreign ministers.

“We’ve held a meeting and discussed many issues in a constructive setting, particularly, how to solve the crisis in Ukraine, Russia’s relations with the EU and NATO,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said, adding that the sides also discussed the situation in Syria and the Middle East.

At the same time, NATO has repeatedly vowed support to Ukraine. On Saturday, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen congratulated the country’s new president,  Petro Poroshenko, on his inauguration and vowed the alliance’s support.

“Ukraine is a long-standing and active NATO partner, and we look forward to working with President Poroshenko. NATO Allies stand firm in their support for Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity,” Rasmussen said in a statement.
