TOKYO, June 10 (RIA Novosti) – A Russian delegation submitted a petition for peace at the Ukrainian Embassy in Japan signed by the citizens of Russia, Ukraine, and Japan, asking to “stop the military operation, withdraw the troops from the armed conflict zone and start a dialogue with the representatives of the southeast regions of Ukraine.”

“The petition was accepted by the second secretary of the Ukrainian Embassy, Roman Shirin. He said that he shared our concern and also hoped for a quick end to the hostilities. The diplomat promised to report about it in person to the Ukrainian Ambassador in Japan,” one of the participants, Anatoly Krasnov, told RIA Novosti.

To prevent provocations and incidents, additional police units were gathered around the Ukrainian Embassy in Tokyo.

The petition, calling for a halt to the fratricide in Ukraine, cessation of hostilities and a launch of peace negotiations was signed by 79 people, including citizens of Ukraine, Russia, and Japan.

“We, the citizens of Ukraine and Russia living in Japan, are very concerned about the escalation of the military operation in the southeast of Ukraine. It already led to a significant increase in fatalities, including among civilians and threatens to become a humanitarian catastrophe,” says the petition.

The petition’s signatories hope that this and other “peaceful appeals will facilitate the search for a resolution of the conflict and put an end to the war as soon as possible.”

The petition was written in response to the punitive military operations launched by Kiev authorities in mid-April against the pro-independence supporters in the east of Ukraine.
