RIGA, May 26 (RIA Novosti) – Former Latvian Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis, nominated by the center-right Unity coalition, is the leader in the country's European Parliament election, Latvia’s Central Election Commission said Monday.
Dombrovskis received nearly 150,000 votes, followed by Sandra Kalniete, a member of the European Parliament, who garnered almost 90,000. Former Latvian Minister of Defense Artis Pabriks came third with just under 70,000 votes.
As for the so-called Russian parties in Latvia, journalist Andrei Mamykin from the Consent movement took almost 30,000 votes. Tatyana Zhdanok, a member of the European Parliament, was backed by nearly 24,000 voters.
A total of 8 Latvian lawmakers have been elected to the European Parliament.
