KIEV, May 8 (RIA Novosti) – Ukraine's security forces will fire at anyone with weapons in their hands, the country's Ministry of Internal Affairs said in a statement on Thursday.
"Anyone who opens fire at the administrative-territorial units' bases will be effectively counter fired at without warning and hesitation," the statement said.
The ministry mentioned a shooting at one of its roadblocks, without naming the location.
A light anti-tank weapon returned fire on the attackers, destroying two of their vehicles, according to the ministry. There has been no information on the number of casualties.
Deadly clashes between pro-federalization supporters and Ukrainian security forces have raged across the country’s east and south, killing dozens and injuring hundreds, after Ukrainian authorities announced the launch of a special operation to crack down on the protesters with military force.
Russia has repeatedly condemned Kiev’s military operation against the restive regions and urged an immediate withdrawal of Ukrainian troops, as well as the start of comprehensive national dialogue to de-escalate the situation in the crisis-hit country.
