KIEV, May 7 (RIA Novosti) – Federalist-held roadblocks near Ukraine’s Odessa have been fortified with gun emplacements, trenches and blockhouses following a series of clashes on Tuesday, the Ukrainian 1+1 television channel reported Wednesday.
On Tuesday, unidentified attackers threw grenades into tents near roadblocks protecting the entrances to Odessa, 1+1 reported, setting several of the tents ablaze.
One roadblock, where seven people were seriously wounded in an attack two weeks ago, nearly burnt down.
Federalization supporters controlling the roadblocks of the mostly Russian-speaking Black Sea port city are preparing for possible attacks ahead of the Victory Day celebration on May 9.
Last Friday, some 46 pro-federalization activists died after being trapped in a fire at the trade union building in Odessa, and over 200 others were injured in a clash between the “anti-Maidan” and “euro-Maidan” supporters. The skirmishes were the bloodiest episode of violence in Ukraine since the start of the crisis in February.
