Russia’s efforts to ensure due medical assistance to its citizen in a New Jersey jail has been made "de-facto impossible" by requirements set out by US officials, a senior Russian diplomat said Thursday.

MOSCOW, February 27 (RIA Novosti) – Russia’s efforts to ensure due medical assistance to its citizen in a New Jersey jail has been made "de-facto impossible" by requirements set out by US officials, a senior Russian diplomat said Thursday.

Russian pilot Konstantin Yaroshenko, who was convicted in the United States of drug trafficking, has previously complained of pre-heart attack symptoms. The Russian Consulate General in New York is insisting that a Russian physician take part in an examination of his health.

The Foreign Ministry’s Special Representative for Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law, Konstantin Dolgov, said in a statement that the Russian doctors, who plan to visit Yaroshenko, should have a medical license issued by New Jersey authorities.

“This virtually makes this humanitarian mission impossible,” Dolgov said. “Moscow is deeply disappointed and perplexed by such a counter-productive stance, taking into account that the health of this Russian citizen still causes serious concern.”

The Russian diplomat said the US side will bear full responsibility for all negative consequences that this move might entail.
